Online dating allows you to present yourself the way you choose to present yourself. With one important caveat: BE HONEST. That doesn’t mean be transparent. That means don’t be misleading or deceitful.

These things are most important:

· Be honest about your physical characteristics, particularly height and body type.

· Be honest about your age.

· Be honest about your relationship status.

· Use current pictures.

I once matched with a man with whom I really hit it off. We made a date to meet. When I walked into the bar, I didn’t recognize him, even though I made eye contact with him several times. He came up and greeted me and we were seated.

During dinner, he told me he was in a horrendous car accident and had been in a coma for over a year. His profile picture was five years old, prior to his accident. I would never expect anyone to disclose something like that in their profile description, but he should have used a current picture. I need to be able to recognize my match when I see him! I wasn’t frustrated because he wasn’t attractive. I was frustrated because he misled me. I never saw him again.
