I remember 9/11 as if it were yesterday.

I was driving to work and I went through Wendy’s drive-through to grab breakfast. The people at the drive-through were acting odd, and I thought I heard a broadcast in the background. I asked what was going on and the woman at the window told me a plane had hit a building in New York. I turned on the radio and listened in shock as I drove into the city.

The freeway through Seattle runs parallel to the King County airport. There were no planes on the runway. Huge black circles with white Xs were on the runways, signaling to planes the runways were closed.

When I arrived at work, people were gathered, talking in hushed voices. Televisions had been rolled out of conference rooms onto the floor and people were gathered round watching.

Later in the morning, there was an announcement over the intercom there would be a minute of silence. I bowed my head and prayed.
